Here’s What All the Buzz Is About: VQuip Completes Custom Fitout of Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo

Apr 15, 2025

VQuip is excited to announce the successful completion of a full vehicle fitout on the highly anticipated Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo—a significant milestone as we continue our product and process innovation for electric commercial vehicles.

As more businesses across Australia begin transitioning to electric vehicle (EV) fleets, it’s clear that this shift brings both opportunity and challenge. With new vehicles like the ID. Buzz Cargo entering the market, VQuip is actively investing in R&D to ensure our customers are equipped with tailored, future-proof fitout solutions that align with the evolving nature of commercial transport.

A New Chapter in Commercial EV Fitouts

Our work on the ID. Buzz Cargo represents more than just another job. It’s a showcase of our adaptability and commitment to helping fleet customers get the most out of electric vans.

Electric commercial vehicles are rapidly gaining traction thanks to their environmental benefits, and increasing support from manufacturers and government bodies. However, they also come with unique fitout considerations—from fitout component weight and placement to internal mounting, and weight distribution.

With these factors in mind, our design and engineering teams developed a custom fitout package that maximised the Buzz’s available load space, retained vehicle safety and compliance, and supported the customer’s operational needs—all while working within the constraints of the EV platform.

About the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo

The ID. Buzz Cargo is Volkswagen’s all-electric reinterpretation of the classic Kombi van, tailored specifically for modern trades and commercial use. And while its looks are retro-inspired, its features are anything but.

Key highlights of the ID. Buzz Cargo include:

  • Spacious Load Area: With a cargo length of 2232mm and an internal height of 1279mm, the ID. Buzz Cargo provides approximately 3.9 cubic metres of load volume—making it capable of transporting standard pallets and trade equipment with ease.
  • Wide Load Access: A minimum width of 1230mm between the rear wheel arches ensures it can accommodate bulky or wide items, while rear and side door openings allow for efficient loading and unloading.
  • Smart Storage: Underfloor compartments located just inside the sliding doors offer secure storage space for tools or smaller components—ideal for mobile service teams.
  • All-Electric Powertrain: Powered by a 77kWh battery, the ID. Buzz Cargo offers up to 395km of real-world range. Fast charging capabilities (up to 185kW) allow an 80% recharge in around 30 minutes—perfect for fleet vehicles with tight schedules.

While the ID. Buzz Cargo is slightly limited by its own mass when it comes to maximum payload, its clever design and onboard tech make it one of the most versatile and forward-thinking electric commercial vans available in Australia today.

Our Fitout Approach

For this particular build, the VQuip team worked closely with the client to understand their day-to-day requirements.

This fitout was not just about fitting components into a van. It was about designing a working environment that would improve productivity, keep the team safe, and ensure longevity of use, all while working within the unique design and load-bearing constraints of an EV.
