New Ford Transit Custom van is here and up for hard yakka: Now it’s time for a fitout!

Jul 15, 2024

You probably won’t need us to tell you that the much-anticipated new Ford Transit Custom van has finally arrived on Australian roads along with some exciting new updates that are being welcomed by fleets, tradies and vehicle experts alike.

Already proving its worth by winning the 2024 International Van of the Year title, the new Ford Transit Custom van isn’t wasting any time at home in showing off its new competitive edge.

In a review by Drive, the new Ford Transit Custom van (which is the first update of its kind in a decade), is described as having “sharper handling, improved comfort and a smarter interior” than its predecessor.

The van’s roomy flat interior and comfortable seats, convenience, safety technology, confident handling and absorbent suspension all top the list of what the Drive reviewers love most about the new Ford van.

Designed by Ford as “the ultimate business partner” to enhance productivity wherever work takes you, the new van comes with loads of features to maximise space and practicality, making it a no brainer vehicle for many of our customers.

As with its predecessor, the new Ford van comes in three sizes providing choice and convenience depending on use. These options include the Short Wheelbase (SWB), the Long Wheelbase (LWB) and the Crew Van (Double Cab).

While the SWB and LWB are both three-seaters, the Double Cab is a five-seater. Length, height and wheelbase differ between the various options with load space also varying and peaking in the LWB with a volume of 6.8m3.  The new van also features rear cargo barn doors that open to 1800.

Details of the various models including dimensions and load space information are shown in the table below:

Safety technology highlights

In addition to its range of updated features, safety technology that comes standard on all diesel Ford Transit Custom vans in Australia includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and speed sign recognition and it is covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

All variants of the new van have a two-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with 125kW and 390Nm, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Plus, in a further exciting development, according to Drive, an electric version of the van is due to be released in Australia later this year.
